Reverse Engineering a wire bonder's vision system

A world famous semiconductor manufacturer was deploying extremely old wire bonding equipment on an assembly line in Malaysia. The vision system in that equipment was rather dated and unable to keep up with the newer, more complex die patterns, however the bonders were still servicable.
Calistra Research Labs was commisioned to reverse engineer the existing (undocumented) vision system and to replace it with a more powerful PC based system.
Calistra engineers successfully interpreted the communications protocols and then built a new system based on Cognex products using the patented PatMax image recognition technology that can recognise partially obscured imaged even when they are rotated.
The system designed and implemented by Calistra Research Labs not only performed the required tasks successfully but managed to exceed the throughput of the old system by at least 10%.
Design of a frequency banded vibration monitor
The client is a third party (accredited) agent for overhalling aircraft gearboxes. as part of the test specifications, a maximum vibration (displacement) is specified in the 380 to 500 Hz bands.
Calistra Research Labs were commisioned to develop a vibration tester for this.
Using an accelerometer we measured the acceleration then performed a bouble integral to get the displacement.
The result was an easy to use PDA based handheld tester with comparable accuracy to devices costing five times as much.
Crash Helmet Testing
Calistra Research Labs' easy to use Impact Energy Attenuation System uses a data acquisition system coupled to a tri-axial accellerometer to measure the impact energy that would be received by the rider's head in the event of a crash.
The system calculates the maximum Head Injury Criterion (HIC) value - the standard measure of transmitted energy for crash helmet testing.
This system is suitable for helmet manufacturers of crash helmets as well as testing institutions.

High speed inspection
The client is one of the leading manufacturers of electrical and electronic interconnection products. The requirements for an in line inspection system were

Calistra designed a system using Cognex vision components which gave the customer full control of the test process.

The Versatile Fax Server
Putting fax capability on each desktop without the need of individual phone lines, and integrated into an overall communications strategy, helps your business communicate effectively to maximise revenue.
RelayFax is a powerful wide area network fax server product from Deerfield that is as home on small networks as large ones.
RelayFax installs a fax driver on the client computers and transfers the fax image by email to the fax server. Incoming faxes are distributed by a fax administrator who forwards them to the correct recipient. RelayFax is ideal for centralised, diverse and even virtual organisations.
RelayFax is designed and fully tested to work with MDaemon email server.
Calistra's system integration services will help you to integrate RelayFax and other Deerfield products to boost your business efficiency.

Advanced Test Workbench
Our client is one of the leading manufacturers of Automatic Test Equipment.
When they decided to introduce a new range of powerful I.C. test equipment, they were decided to use Calistra to develop the latest test development platform based on a proposal that we submitted containing several revolutionary ideas.
The advanced Test Workbench allows the test developer to create re-usable waveform cycles - which are analagous to defining system bus cycles (e.g. I/O read) - that can be re-used with different data, somwhat like function calls that take parameters.
As a result, test development time is dramatically reduced because each cycle only has to be debugged once.

Build
your Brand Image with individual e-mail addresses
In order to create a corporate identity, most companies have invested in an internet presence. The ironic thing is that, even if they have a domain name, they still often use their ISP's email address - with all the staff accessing a common e-mail account.
MDaemon, when combined with e-mail aliasing (available with most web hosting services) allows every user in an organisation to have an individual e-mail account, using a single ISP based mailing address.
Calistra's integration and consultancy services can advise you on the optimal e-mail configuration for your organisation, depending on your needs.
MDaemon integrates tightly with Mailscan for online virus checking.

Shared Internet Access
With the Internet being an essential tool for business transactions and an invaluable reference for information about suppliers, potential clients and competitors, most of our staff need to be connected to the Internet in order to fulfill their duties.
Wingate allows a single internet connection (dial-up or broadband) to be shared between the users on a local area network.
Cost savings are achieved by reducing the number of internet accounts required is reduced to a single account - while the overhead on the server computer is minimal.
In the true fashion of the Internet economy, we do not claim to be all things to all people. Instead we have established a number of International partnerships - from IT Solutions to Automation and from the UK to Australia. We are happy to investigate partnerships with anybody with whom we can identify mutually beneficial courses of action.

CPM/PLAS Range of process monitors
Calistra Research Labs has been working closely with Kistler Instruments in the field of Cavity Pressure Monitoring to improve the quality of moulded plastic parts.
By placing a quartz sensor inside the mould cavities, the cavity pressure may be monitored throughout the mouding cycle. The cavity pressure is affected by temperature, viscosity, injection pressure and many other things and thus an ideal pressure profile can be regarded as a fingerprint of a good process.
The Calistra CPM/PLAS is an entry level unit designed to help mouloders evaluate Cavity pressure monitoring without the need to investing in the usual costly monitoring systems.
The CPM/PLAS connectes to a notebook computer and is ready for action within minutes.
Basic features include reporting of PMax and PIndex, printing of curves and a special interface to
